Captain: KL Rahul

Coach: Anil Kumble

Home Stadium: Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali

IPL Titles: 0

Owners: Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul

The Punjab kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) were bought for $ 304 in 2008 by Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul. Punjab, who changed its name before the 2021 IPL "new look and feel", has reached the IPL finals and playoffs only once, where they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders.

History

The Kings had a promising start to the first season, but they did not find consistent success, lacking a solid core. In October 2010, the IPL governing body expelled Punjab and Rajasthan Royals from the league, alleging breach of shares and ownership. The matter came to court, and both parties were reinstated, but uncertainty affected Punjab's auction programs in 2011, when they had the opportunity to rebuild their party. Their coach, Michael Bevan, was appointed just four days before the auction, leaving little time to plan their bidding strategy, and they ended up with no players.

After three years of playing, they found a good place in the 2014 auction, put together an exciting team under Sanjay Bangar as coach and went on to the top of the league and lost in the finals from KKR, while reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League T20. But they have not been able to build on those benefits since then.

Height

The re-emerging team, which captains George Bailey, began to heat up in 2014. Glenn Maxwell - who finished as a tournament player - started by killing the innings of the robbers, sponsored by David Miller. The Punjab set the table with 11 wins in 14 games, but lost slightly in the final despite a 199-point victory.

Downfall

They finished as wood carpenters three times: in 2010, 2015 and 2016. The 2015 season was very annoying, coming as it happened after their good year. They have won just 3 games and lost 11 in 2015.

Season with Position

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

2008 – 3rd

Shaun Marsh gained worldwide attention during the blockbuster season, hitting 616 runs and driving the Punjab in knockouts after winning 11 of 14 league games. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in the semi final by nine wickets.

2009 – 5th

They tied the points on the table with the Deccan Chargers - who could end up being champions - but had a very low net worth, so they were not ready for the semi-finals. The Punjab did not feature in the tournament, which was played in South Africa, and they would have finished in 7th place if the Indians of Mumbai had not interrupted the chase.

2010 – 8th

Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara made more than 800 runs between them, with Irfan Pathan contributing around, but the Punjab seemed to miss important minutes. They won just 1 of their first 8 games. Losses used to be close, but without points to show it, they shrinked, eventually ending up under a pile.

2011 – 5th

Punjab lost a place in the knockouts this year. Adam Gilchrist led the revitalized team; Marsh was left to produce another era of stars. Some of the beats and bowls were sufficient and unchanging except for the splendor, which was evident at their end.

2012 – 6th

The bowlers, led by Parvinder Awana and Piyush Chawla, have won the title this season, although their top striker, Mandeep Singh, has won the Emerging Player of the Year award. Punjab finished 6 out of 9, although the teams placed 4th and 5th with only one point more.

2013 – 6th

The highlight of their season came when David Miller announced the biggest stage in the 38th century unbeaten game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, but all in all they had a median competition, with 8 wins and 8 defeats.

2014 – 2nd

They were the clear leaders in the group stage, winning 11. Maxwell and Miller had a good season with the bat; The Virender Sehwag gave a century to the 2nd qualifying round, but in the final, despite being a hundred from Wriddhiman Saha, Punjab dropped to the final in a thrilling overtime match against KKR.

2015 – 8th

Everything that can go like a pearl is done. Maxwell is rated for 13 innings and over 11, and although Miller was their champion, he was a reflection of his 2014 personality. It has only won 3 times in the league which means the Punjab has been thrown down the table.

2016 – 8th

Another bad season. Their luck was evident in their last league game, against the Rising Pune Supergiant. Both teams had 8 points, striving to avoid finishing by the bottom, while the Punjab looked to have had the defense of 23 in the last over. But MS Dhoni hit four and six in the last three balls which led to Pune's victory.

2017 – 5th

Maxwell was made captain, and Punjab enjoyed a better season than the previous two, but they were bowled out by 73, their lowest number in the IPL so far, facing the Rising Pune Supergiant in a game they needed to win in order to compete.

2018 – 7th

The team made another change after another major auction, with Ravichandran Ashwin appointed as captain. They won their first 5 games in 6 games but then found their luck back, earning a single victory in their next 8 games. The bright spot was KL Rahul's 659 runs, which is the 3rd highest run of the season.

2019 – 6th

Punjab finished with 6 wins and 12 points, but one place higher in the table than last year. Had one close defeat turned out to be a victory, they would have been in the qualifiers, but even though Rahul, Ashwin and Mohammed Shami were playing well, they were not good enough.

2020 – 7th

Punjab finished the season with 6 wins and 12 points again. Their season was a rollercoaster, with one win showing in several games very close to the first half, followed by 5 consecutive wins over the course of the playground, but they were unable to solidify that momentum.

Great players

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

KL Rahul

He was sold for $ 11 million at the 2018 auction and has been the leading scorer in the franchise for all seasons since then. He was appointed captain before the year 2020 and became the leading scorer in the tournament that season.

Chris Gayle

Purchased at the end of the 2018 auction, Gayle suggested a mid-T20 refund to become a lynchpin to hit the side. In just 31 games, he has strike more than 1,000 runs in the middle of the strike. His ability to hit six in the past few years was remarkable.

Shaha Marsh

According to statistics the most successful batsman in the Punjab so far, Marsh has not had a single bad season in more than a decade with the team, collecting runs peacefully and successfully. His career began after the first IPL, but by the time he encountered the ups and downs elsewhere, he was a solid rock in the Punjab, with almost 2500 runs.

David Miller

Another striking man who has caught the world's attention with his Punjab actions. He has been the captain of the team, though not very successful, and for eight seasons has been one of the few residents on the opposite side of the ever-changing landscape.
